Here is an original handwritten letter of correspondence from William H. Seward from 1859. Guaranteed original, and signed by him or all your money plus shipping refunded. The letter was written by him in The Senate Chamber Jan.14, 1859 to J.W or L.W. Minor, Esquire. The details of the letter are in reference to the case of the heirs of Captain Edward Rogers.
Seward was a Senator then (he was also the Governor of New York earlier), and was to become Abraham Lincoln's Secretary of State 2 years after this letter was written and signed.
As Lincoln's Secretary of State , he engineered the United States purchasing the area of Alaska for .2 million, and he was mad fun of for doing so. Americans labeled the purchase "Seward's Folly" at the time. I guess he had the last laugh, as Alaska's natural resources are bountiful.
