    Description

Amazing hand-woven Kuba cloth from what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Made of raffia palm fibers, vegetable dyed red with dark brown and embellished with a geometric knotted embroidery grid and many cowrie shells.
It measures 19 inches wide and 150 inches long -- 12 feet, 6 inches. Sewn in panels. I believe these were originally used as ceremonial skirts.
Unsure of its age, but there is some staining and a few holes -- see all photos. Overall, very attractive piece for display or decor.
From the Louisville, KY, estate of a world traveler.
