    Description

Antique c.1775 'Jesus Falls for the Third Time
' Unframed Mexican Retablo on Tin
Beautiful retablo depicting the Ninth Station of the Cross - Jesus Falling for the Third Time. There are four of Jesus' followers helping to lift him and bear some of the burden of the cross. Jesus is seen on the ground in a vibrant, blue robe and a crown of thorns on his head.
There are a few flaws with this piece. There are several surface scratches, mostly in the center of the piece surrounding Jesus and the cross. Jesus' face is visible along with the two followers on his right. The face's of the followers on his left are essentially scratched off. There is a nail hole along the upper edge of the piece and the copper is slightly cracked next to it. This piece is completely original, unrestored, and not repainted.
This piece was covered in a glossy varnish sometime after the scratches occurred in order to stabilize the edges of the paint chips. It is painted on very heavy gauge copper - about 0.9mm (measured with calipers).
The dimensions of the piece is approximately 11" x 8.25".
Please look at all pictures closely to verify condition. I have not made an exhaustive list of features nor flaws, therefore you need to verify for yourself.
