Description
Mid century handwoven, hand dyed mud cloth textile from the Bogolan region of Mali, West Africa. The design is hand painted using fermented clay as a resist and therefore each piece is the unique expression of the individual artist. The cloth would make an excellent blanket or throw. Old mud cloth textiles are extremely rare and almost impossible to find; virtually all pieces currently on the market are new.The textile is handwoven in 4 1/4" (11cm) wide strips which are sewn together to form one large cloth and design is quite minimalist and modern. This piece is in elegant shades of very dark chocolate brown and natural cream colored cotton. The textile is 35" (89cm) wide x 63" (160cm) long with a small fringe. There are no holes, stain or repairs that I can see and the textile is in excellent conidition given its age and origins. It has been woven from raw, unprocessed cotton and is medium to heavy weight; ideal for being used as home decor.
I recommend hand washing separately with cold water and mild soap. This piece has already been washed and can be used immediately. I have more vintage African textiles so please see my store for other designs. Combined shipping available on all textiles. Please ask any questions prior to purchase. Thank you!
All vintage items are 100% authentic and have been previously worn, often in a traditional environment. Every effort has been made to describe any significant flaws in both words and pictures in the listings however a certain amount of wear should always be expected. Handmade items should also be expected to contain irregularities which I believe adds to their character and does not detract in any way from their quality.
