Description
No wonder this was one of the most popular patterns in England in the 1800's; it just dynamic. We have a 7.25" plate in the "Bewick Stag" pattern taken from a wood engraving by Thomas Bewick. This pattern was made by mostly Minton and Enoch Wood, but other manufacturers copied it, also. Minton did it first in 1820 and called it the "Bewick Stag"; Wood and Son's began doing it in 1825, calling it "Two Deer". As popular as it was, it is difficult to find now. This one has such beautiful strong colors. It has a chip on the front at one o'clock and a tiny one at 5 o'clock, slight even crazing, slight glaze loss on the inside edge, and obvious stilt marks on the back. It is scalloped on the edges which adds to the beauty. It is marked, but I can't identify it. Enjoy !
