  • Condition: Good-Very Good overall vint cond: Offered for your review & consideration is this lg, really exciting, hand-painted carnival roulette spinning wheel, that would've most likely been used at country fairs, amusement parks or carnivals. These spoked, spinning, hand painted wheels once populated fairs & fraternal halls, such as the 'V.F.W.' (Veterans of Foreign Wars) which is inscribed on the verso from the 1920's all the way to the late 1950's & early 1960's. This particular spinning wheel has a nailed, spoked perimeter, where the balls would roll against. As the wheel ceased to spin as rapidly, eventually slowed & finally stopped, the ball would come to rest in a slot in between 2 nails, denoting the winning number & corresponding prize to be awarded to the winning better. The wood is jig-cut in the middle, w/4 distinct curvilinear arms that form a kind of Celtic cross in the middle of the wheel. It's painted w/black, white, green, red & yellow enamel paint. Handsome & 100% orig. Great.

    'V.F.W.'

which is inscribed on the back of the wooden spinning wheel, from the 1920's, all the way to the late 1950's and early 1960's. This particular spinning wheel has a nailed, spoked perimeter, where the game balls would roll against as the wheel spun rapidly. Once the wheel eventually slowed and finally stopped, the ball would come to rest in a slot in between two nails, denoting the winning number and corresponding prize to be awarded to the winning better. The wood is jig-cut by hand in the middle, with four distinct curvilinear supporting arms that form a kind of Celtic cross in the middle of the wheel. It's painted with black, white, green, red and yellow enamel paint. It appears as if the spinning wheel may have dropped at some point, since there are two fairly noticeable fractures (hairline cracks) that span the width of two arms. These are not even that noticeable but are present and have not been fixed. No attempt has been made to try and disguise or to repair these areas. The vintage spinning wheel remains as it was found and in 100% original vintage condition. When a vintage item, such as this has a problem or two, but when what it has going for it, far outweighs the issues going against it, it still is a worthy object and worthy enough to allow it to remain as it always was and maintain its original vintage integrity. Still a great wall hanger and a real visual stinger. Really cool.
