This is an
elaborately hand carved Orb on Stand
.  This amazing piece is entirely hand
made from a Gourd with images of the
two fighting Iguanas
wrapped
around the surface
.
The artist has left the
Natural Brown color of the Gourd and cut away the surface to achieve the decorative pattern.
This piece was all handmade / hand carved by
Rafael Avenlop of Pinotepa de Don Luis
on the Coast of Oaxaca.
This type of craft is typical of this area in Oaxaca.
They measure
approximately
: 9 1/2 inches tall by 7 1/2 wide and 7 1/2 deep.
