Lot of 2 Vintage Signed Oaxacan Alebrije Wood Carved & Painted Folk Art Animals

Description

For sale are two vintage wooden whimsical cats, hand-carved, painted, and signed by the Oaxacan artisans: Gilberto Ortega Mendez and Esteban Ortega Mendez.
The red-blue cat measures 5 3/4" x 1 1/2" and is signed on the bottom by the artist.
The other carving of the blue-green cat measures 5 1/2" x 1 3/4" and is also signed on the bottom.
Both are beautifully detailed and are in very good condition, though I would note that there is a small
hole
in the back of each cat that may or may not have held a tail.
I am unsure, but the presence of a hole makes it easier to display on a wall -- see photos.
