    RARE, Vintage, Mexican folk art sculpture by the late Manuel Jimenez, and son, the artist credited as the founder of Oaxacan Wood Carvings. Signed, Museum quality.Up for consideration is a rare, important Oaxacan carved Sculpture of a Blue Rabbit by the Father of Oaxacan woodcarving, Manuel Jimenez Ramirez (1919-2005). He is known and collected in museums and private collections world-wide.His style is recognized by its bold colors, intricate designs and imaginative depictionsof animals. Also, Manuel carved from cedar as a way to distinguish his carvings from others as the craft became more popular. This piece is signed by both him and his sons Angelico and Isaias Jimenez, his sons are still making wood carvings following their fathers tradition and style. The piece is from the early 1990's.
