    Description

I bought this from the gift shop at the Explorean, Kohunlich hotel near Chetumal, Mexico (Quintana Roo) in the fall of 2000, therefore it was created that year or prior to my stay.  My room at the hotel had similar pieces, which were filled with hotel shampoo bottles and soap bars. I used it at home for a few years to keep cotton balls in, then put it away into storage after redecorating.  I was told that it had been hand carved by indigenous people living near Kohunlich and have no reason not to believe this.
The bowl is very lovely.  It's a hand-carved gourd depicting nature life in this area.  It has been well-loved.
It is lightweight and measures approximately 18-1/2 inches diameter at the top and widest point.  The bowl and stand measure, together from top to bottom, 3-1/4 inches approximately.
