    Description

Beautiful, colorful shawl/poncho made from a vintage, hard to find indigo and multi-colored ikat dyed textile, by the Baule people of the Ivory Coast and Ghana. 10 very soft, medium weight, tightly handwoven strips sewn together, showing a striking graphic design, and decorated throughout with small areas of embroidered colored yarn. The Baule are only one of two peoples in West Africa that do ikat dyeing of their weaving thread.
41” x 56”. Excellent condition: Fringed ends with a woven tight strip to prevent unraveling; strips were machine sewn together with a zig-zig stitch, as are most of the ones I have for sale.
