Description
Beautiful vintage handwoven cotton and dyed African indigo fabric, made by the Dogon in Mali. Textiles are dyed with the resist, stitch dyeing technique and each piece is unique. All the ones I will be listing arehard to find, older indigo pieces in very good conditon, with the old dyed patterns, and all were used and soft from wear and washing.
This piece has
4 medium weight, wide, hand sewn cotton strips and one smaller, torn strip machine sewn on one side, all in a pattern of stitch dyed lines and dots. One side of the textile is slightly lighter so the former owner must have recycled two more damaged pieces to make this one.
56" x 40”; Very good condition: fringe on one end, and other end mostly hemmed, both by hand as well as sewing machine; some seam repair and one area with smaller holes (see picutre 4). But a very popular pattern.
I was lucky to have first choice of several containers of indigo as they arrived directly from Africa, and picked ones with the most unusual designs and those in the best condition. Please follow my site as I continue to list from the large “stash” that I have available.
