    Description

Stunning mid-century hand loomed ikat Baule cloth from Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) with embroidery. The textile would make an excellent shawl or throw. The textile has been woven in 4" (10cm) wide strips which are machine-sewn together to form one large cloth. Traditionally worn as a wrapper, these textiles all unique in shade, size and wear.
The textile is 41" (104cm) wide x 60" (152cm) long with a 1" fringe. It is in shades of navy blue indigo and natural cream colored cotton with a thin light yellow colored stripe along one edge [see photos]. It has red and fluorescent yellow wool embroidery. There are two seam repairs and one very subtle stain. The textile is in excellent condition given its age and origins - it is becoming increasingly difficult to source baule textiles of this era which don't have major flaws. The textile is very tightly woven from unprocessed cotton and has a lovely hand feel and an especially elegant, minimalist design.
The last photo shows a similar textile being worn in a traditional setting, not the textile listed for sale. I recommend had washing separately in cold water with mild soap. This piece has already been washed and can be used immediately. I have more vintage African textiles so please see my store for other styles. Combined shipping available on all textiles. Please ask any questions prior to purchase. Thank you
All items are 100% authentic and vintage items will have been previously worn, often in a traditional environment. Every effort has been made to describe any flaws in both words and pictures in the listings however a certain amount of wear should always be expected. Handmade items should also be expected to contain irregularities which I believe adds to their character and does not detract in any way from their quality.
