Description
Beautiful vintage Cameroon (Bamileke or Bamum tribe) Ndop indigo rafia stitched, dyed fabric, in excellent condition.Indigo pieces of this size were used as either backdrops behind king's thrones and royalty during ceremonies, displayed on the walls of a king's palace or as walking paths/rugs for them. A rare find for an African textile collector, or someone interested in quality African indigo work!

L; No major damage except for minor browning, seam repairs and tiny, hard to see holes at the ends. I would still state that the work, considering its age and use, is in excellent condition. The shape and size of this indigo might show it to be used as a rug for a royal, or, with the dirt color at each end only, it could have been displayed over something and the ends hanging in the ground.
I bought a MUCH larger piece along with this one, which I will also list. It has red fabric at the edges, definitely signifying that it was hung in a palace. Please contact me if you are interested in it as well when you see this one, and I haven
’
t already listed the other one.
