Description
Unique, vintage handwoven cotton and lavender color dyed African textile, made by the Dogon in Mali. I have never seen this color used on the traditional Mali designs and I suspect it is just a variation of the blue indigo color that some dyer managed to make. Piece has 11 strips sewn together, and instead of stitch dyeing the linear design, with the rectangles and squares that make up the lines, appear to be woven.42" W x 58" L; Hand hemmed at either end; Very soft from wear and washing. Very good condition for the most part but there are several spots in one area where the strips have been resewn, and a few small holes where the strips meet.
All the works I will be listing are
hard to find, older indigo textiles in very good conditon, with the old dyed striped patterns, and some in the old stitch and resist patterns as well. All were used and soft from wear and washing.
I was lucky to have “first choice” of five containers of indigos as they arrived directly from Africa, and have many. I picked ones that were in the best condition, and/or the most unique, but there are almost always a few flaws, which I will note in my listings and photographs.
