Description
Unusual vintage handmade indigo dyed embroidered cloth from Mali, West Africa. The textile would make an excellent shawl or throw. The textile has been handwoven in 5 1/2" (14cm) strips which are hand-sewn together to form one large cloth. Traditionally worn as a wrapper, these cloths all unique in shade, size and wear. This piece is in shades of dark navy indigo blue cotton with yellow, pink, green and blue decorative wool embroidery - some of the thread are loose [see photos]. The textile is 45" (114cm) wide x 67" (170cm) long with a raw edge. There is one 1" hole [see photos] and no stains that I can see. The textile has been hand woven from unprocessed cotton and has been worn very soft; it drapes beautifully. The textile is in heavily worn condition and is a very cool piece.
I recommend hand washing separately in cold water with mild soap. It has already been washed and ironed and can be used immediately. I have more vintage African indigo textiles so please see my store for other colors. Combined shipping available on all textiles. Please ask any questions prior to purchase. Thank you!
All items are 100% authentic and vintage items will have been previously worn, often in a traditional environment. Every effort has been made to describe any flaws in both words and pictures in the listings however a certain amount of wear should always be expected. Handmade items should also be expected to contain irregularities which I believe adds to their character and does not detract in any way from their quality.
