Description
Beautiful vintage handwoven cotton and dyed African indigo fabric, made by the Dogon in Mali. Textiles are dyed with the resist, stitch, and sometimes stamp dying techniques and each piece is unique. All the ones I will be listing arehard to find, older indigo pieces in very good conditon unless noted, with the old dyed patterns, and all were used and soft from wear and washing.
This piece is rare because of its design, which incorporates both decorative stamp dyed designs on one side, and linear resist/tie dyed lines showing on the front and back. 8 hand woven, medium-heavy weight, cotton strips sewn together;
58” x 38”. Very good-excellent condition: ends not hemmed; two sides have been machine sewn to the middle part, but all seams tight; a few, very minor, hard to see areas of loosening of weaving, but most of the stamped textiles of this type have many more holes and damage, and this piece is one of the best I have available.
I was lucky to have first choice of several large shipments of indigos as they arrived by African, have picked the the most unique designs and those pieces in the best condition to sell. Keep watching my store as I continue to make my large “stash” available to buyers around the world!
